Based on the bestseller of the same name by Ruth Ware, the film stars Keira as a travel journalist on a cruise who witnesses a murder, but no one believes her.

Last month while filming in the coastal town of Portland Harbour, Dorset, the production left residents ‘terrified’ after setting off fireworks from a superyacht.

Although a warning had been issued to residents ahead of the series of five-minute fireworks displays, many locals were left furious by the noise which stretched over three hours.

Many complained that the show was incredibly loud and disturbed sleeping children and frightened pets and some even said it sounded like a war had started.

One resident said: ‘It would have been good if I had been warned. Our windows rattled at the first blow and our young dog was petrified… Doesn’t anyone think about the animals?’.

While another explained that she had a dog that collapsed and a herd of scared horses.

And a third said: ‘Listening and past my bedtime, just when I thought they were done it started again.’

Some said the booms “rattled my windows” and said, “I thought we were being bombed” and “I thought the Russians were coming.”

But one resident said: ‘It’s time for all the haters to get a grip on their lives. This has brought thousands of pounds into the local area. Announcements have been made.

‘If this was a ‘normal’ fireworks display on Weymouth seafront everyone would be ecstatic about it. It’s a film production, I guess this is better than the council would ever do?

Dorset Council has been working with the producers and has previously said they are keen to encourage film crews to the area.

A spokesperson said: ‘Dorset Council is keen to support the creative industries with a film-friendly environment and welcomes requests from production companies wishing to film in the region.
