Everyone makes same joke as Pope Francis accidentally blesses NFL team
The New Orleans Saints may have Pope Francis to thank for his blessing when their terrible losing streak ends Sunday.
On Friday, the Pope posted on They are ‘filled with God’ and are unable to remain indifferent to the needs of their neighbor. They testify to paths of light that we too can tread.”
Although the leader of the Catholic Church was clearly not referring to the New Orleans NFL franchise, many fans twisted the post to make fun of the 2-6 team.
“Your Holiness, I don’t have any #Saints in my roster,” one user wrote. “Is this something I need to confess?”
“I don’t want to be that guy but I’m not even sure your blessings will help that team right now,” a second added.
Pope Francis’ tweet about Saints provoked fans to make jokes about the struggling NFL team
“Every time he uses that hashtag he chuckles, like he knows we’re going to talk about the football team doing poorly this year,” said a third.
“Holiness, it’s 2-6,” said a fourth.
A fifth replied: ‘I know the #Saints let you down just like everyone else does.’
After winning their first two games this season, the Saints have moved within six games and sit third in the NFC South.
The Saints will face the Panthers, who they ousted in Week 1, again on The Lord’s Day, November 3.
Fans responded, telling the Pope that his blessing could not help the Saints out of their skids
After winning their first two games this season, the Saints have lost their last six games
Should they emerge with a victory, it would not be the first time the saints received the Pope’s blessing.
In 2019, Pope Francis similarly tweeted about saints before New Orleans took on the Jacksonville Jaguars, writing, “Today we thank the Lord for our new #Saints. They walked by faith and now we call upon their intercession.”
Miraculously, the team secured the victory without their starting quarterback Drew Brees.
