A thunderous crash woke sleeping neighbors in rural Philadelphia when a woman was hit and left to die on the streets of the city’s Wissinoming neighborhood.

Philadelphia police are now searching for a driver and vehicle involved in Saturday morning’s fatal crash.

The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene when she was hit with such force that she was reportedly flown 200 feet into the street and both of her sneakers were ripped off. She is believed to be in her late twenties or early thirties.

“There are numerous broken vehicle parts and pieces that we believe were broken off by the impact of the striking vehicle,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Clothing and jewelry believed to have been worn by the victim were found hundreds of feet from her body, police said, adding that “it was clear that the driver was going far too fast” and that the driver did not stop.

Neighbors who woke up to the loud bang of the crash told police the driver was speeding when the victim was fatally struck.

The terrifying surveillance footage shows what police describe as a dark-colored SUV driving away from the scene at a high rate of speed.

But this is not the first incident ABC spoke to neighbors who say speeding is a common occurrence as cars leave the nearby Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.

“They keep happening, and they’re getting closer to home. I mean, you can’t get any closer to home,” said the concerned neighbor. She added that she had witnessed fatalities before.

‘There was a man who was hit on his bicycle and died. There was a head-on collision on the bridge,” she added before urging the driver to come forward.

“Hopefully the right person will turn themselves in.”

Police say the suspect was driving a black or dark-colored SUV as they review surveillance camera footage in hopes of revealing a model or year of the suspect vehicle.
