Police have launched a major manhunt for a cycling partner after he reportedly cut his anklet and disappeared hours after he was released from court.

Mark Horne disappeared Friday while awaiting trial for the September 2020 shooting of truck driver Leith Carstairs and the theft of $550,000 at Mt Lambie in the Blue Mountains.

The 32-year-old was last seen on Friday morning at approximately 6:15 am after taking a rideshare to Coorabin Place, in Sydney’s southwestern suburb of Riverwood.

He was then seen getting into a vehicle heading west on the M5 motorway, while police feared Horne might try to flee to South East Asia on a boat via Queensland.

NSW police have issued an arrest warrant after Horne reportedly cut off his ankle monitor and violated the terms of his bail and is appealing to the public for information about his whereabouts.

Detectives from NSW Police’s Criminal Groups Squad, along with Commonwealth and interstate law enforcement, conduct extensive searches and investigations at airports and ports, as well as other transport routes across NSW and Australia.

Horne is described as about 6 feet tall, of medium build with brown hair, hazel eyes and with prominent tattoos covering both arms and his right leg with a faded tattoo on his neck and chin.

Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor 2GB radio on Tuesday that Horne is considered a ‘dangerous’ man and warned people not to approach him.

“I’d consider him an armed person,” Mr. Taylor said. ‘He’s a desperate man, he’s a dangerous man’

“We’re not afraid to use as many resources as possible to find him.”

Horne was released on bail in August 2021 after eight months behind bars in custody for, among other things, theft in the business, taking a person into company and knowingly handling the proceeds of a crime.

He was initially charged with five offences, including theft in company, knowingly handling the proceeds of crime, companionship, kidnapping in company and unloading a firearm.

Horne’s bail conditions included reporting to the police daily, not associating himself with rebel bikes, having a 9 p.m. curfew, a $50,000 bail, and wearing an ankle bracelet.

Horne also had to surrender his passport, adding to suspicions that he was trying to flee the country by water.

Anyone who sees Mark, or has information about his whereabouts, is requested not to approach him and to call Triple Zero (000) or CrimeStoppers (1800 333 000) immediately.
