If your iPhone 14 Plus has this camera problem, Apple will fix it for free
- Apple has identified an iPhone 14 Plus problem
- It is the first iPhone service program since 2021
- You can check your eligibility online
Although we gave it high praise in our iPhone 14 Plus review, the iPhone 14 Plus is apparently prone to a particular rear camera issue, Apple has admitted – and if this affects you, you can get your device for free to repair.
It’s been three years since we had an iPhone service program (where Apple admits a problem and will fix it for you), but as 9to5Mac has noted, there is now officially a problem with the rear camera of the iPhone 14 Plus – which Apple is still selling online.
The good news is that this will only apply to a “very small percentage” of iPhone 14 Plus models, according to Apple. The problem specifically is that there is no preview shown on the screen when you use the rear camera of the handset.
iPhone 14 Plus handsets manufactured between April 10, 2023 and April 28, 2024 may be affected: Apple has provided a serial number checker so you can quickly see whether or not your iPhone was included.
What happens next
If you have an iPhone 14 Plus that has been identified as problematic through the serial number checker, you can take it to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to have your phone repaired for free.
You can also contact Apple about sending your phone in for repair. Follow this link to find the relevant page on the Apple Support website, where you’ll find options for scheduling an in-store repair or shipping your handset.
If Apple determines that your iPhone 14 Plus is one of the affected devices and you’ve already paid to have the problem fixed, you can get your money back (follow this link). You can file a claim up to three years after the initial purchase of the iPhone.
There are some steps to follow when sending your iPhone in for repair, whether for this problem or another. You’ll need to make sure everything is backed up, disable the Find My service, and delete any active cards in Apple Wallet.
