Shocking moment Orlando shooter callously opens fire on crowd – before being brought down by hero cop

This is the horrific moment a 17-year-old opened fire on a Halloween crowd in Orlando, killing two, before being shot by a heroic officer.

Jaylen Dwayne Edgar was arrested Friday after killing two people and wounding six others in downtown Orlando, officials said.

Shocking footage released by police shows the suspect in a yellow shirt calmly walking through the crowd of Halloween partygoers before turning and firing his gun. The crowd flees in panic as the muzzle flash illuminates the dark street.

The suspect is seen running with the crowd towards two police cars, colliding with the innocent bystanders who were fleeing in panic.

As he pulls the gun out again, a heroic officer spots him and quickly tackles him to the ground, disarming him before other officers assist in the arrest.

The suspect protested his innocence and appeared to try to blend in with other bystanders who were fleeing for their lives.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the city center shortly after 1 a.m.

A few minutes later, a second shooting occurred a short distance from officers and they quickly made an arrest, the city’s police chief, Eric Smith, said during a briefing Friday morning.

The six injured people, who range in age from 19 to 39, were transported to a hospital for treatment and were in stable condition, Smith said.

Smith showed video footage from street security cameras and a police camera showing the two shootings and the arrest of the suspect at the second shooting location.

Police used surveillance video to provide a description of the suspect, but the second shooting occurred near the police station and officers saw the attack, Smith said.

Young people – many wearing Halloween costumes – were partying in the area on Thursday evening before the horrors unfolded.

“He pretty much walked downtown, walked up the street and did what he did,” Chief Smith said, adding that the teenage suspect did not walk into any clubs.

“Whatever his mentality was, he was going to shoot anyway,” Smith added, noting that the suspect’s motivation is part of the ongoing investigation.

More than 100 officers patrolled the crowd, estimated at between 50,000 and 100,000 people celebrating Halloween Thursday evening and early Friday morning.

Florida State’s Attorney Andrew Baine said charging the teenage suspect as an adult is a possibility, but his office would await further information from the police investigation.

Edgar was previously arrested in 2023 for theft.

Police have not released the names of the victims because their families have been notified.
