Audrey Hepburn was one of the most beautiful screen icons in the world – but felt she was too ‘boring’ to write memoir

She was known as one of Hollywood’s most successful and iconic women, whose fame lived on for many years after her death.

But Audrey Hepburn never wrote an autobiography because she found her life too boring according to her son.

Ms. Hepburn made her name in films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Roman Holiday and My Fair Lady, becoming one of the most recognizable actresses of all time.

She was also nominated for an Academy Award five times and was named Best Actress in 1953 and won a record three BAFTA Awards for Best Actress.

Now her son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, has opened up about his mother on the Lament Of Hope podcast.

“Without a doubt, she is more famous worldwide today than she was when she was alive,” he said.

‘More than 300 books have been written about her, ranging from what Audrey would do to what hat she would wear.

‘She had a fairly normal and boring life and that’s why she never made a biography about her life, even though she was offered millions by the legendary agent Irving Swifty Lazar.

‘Because she actually woke up early, went to work, did her thing, didn’t live in Hollywood, and at the height of her fame gave up her career to be a normal person again, and at the end of her life did the work of UNICEF and the face of UNICEF changed.”

Ms Hepburn married American actor Mel Ferrer in 1954, eight months after they met.

They had their son Sean Hepburn Ferrer in 1960, who is now a film producer and author of a book about his mother.

Mrs Hepburn subsequently married Italian psychiatrist Andrea Dotti in 1968 and had her second son Luca Andrea Dotti in 1970.

Soon after, she moved to Switzerland to focus on motherhood and gave up Hollywood, where she could get away from the paparazzi and work as a UNICEF ambassador.

Mr Ferrer said the world needs someone like his mother now.

He said: ‘Every child of friends of mine, of people I know, comes up to me starry-eyed and says, ‘Are you really Audrey Hepburn’s son?’ What was she really like?’ You feel a little royal sometimes.

“Maybe Hollywood royalty.

“And the cool thing is that she really touched so many people, and if you know who she was, it’s for the right reasons.

“In a world of Kardashians, we need an Audrey Hepburn.”
