I’m A Celebrity camp is ‘invaded by new poisonous creatures’ as the stars prepare to head into the jungle for the ITV show
With the ITV series of I’m A Celebritiy returning in the coming weeks, the new crop of stars coming into camp could have another dangerous beast with them.
The famous jungle camp is currently under attack from an outbreak of highly poisonous cane toads.
If any of the stars disturb the deadly toads, they can spray toxins into their eyes, causing pain and vision problems.
And if someone touches the pest with bare hands, the milky poison – secreted by the glands – will seep through the human skin and affect the heart and breathing.
A source said The mirror: ‘As if there weren’t enough things for the campers to worry about, like spiders, snakes and ticks, now it seems they have to keep an eye on armies of these poisonous pests.

‘They like ponds, so the jungle creek and even the famous shower area need to be closely monitored.’
MailOnline has contacted representatives of I’m A Celebrity for comment.
Environmental experts have been concerned this year as the cane toad population has soared on Australia’s Gold Coast – where the ITV show is filmed.
Wet and humid weather has created ideal conditions for the amphibians to mate and one female can lay up to 35,000 toad eggs.
In addition to the harm they can cause to humans, the toads can also kill animals with their toxins, including dogs, snakes and even crocodiles.
Teams are currently trying to remove as many cane toads as possible, including in regions such as Dungay Creek in Murwillumbah, where the ITV show is filmed.
The dangerous animal invasion of the camp will be bad news for this year’s celebrity line-up, which includes Coleen Rooney, Ferne McCann, Alan Halsall and Ally McCoist taking to the jungle.
The source added: ‘All the stars are given strict and in-depth conversations about the wildlife they might encounter there and how to deal with it for safety reasons. Bushtucker Trials will seem like a picnic though.”
Kelsi Taylor, invasive species manager for Watergum Community Inc on the Gold Coast, said: “They are widespread in Murwillumbah, including Dungay Creek.

‘They are poisonous at every stage of life, making them a threat to our native wildlife. They also have enormous appetites and have been known to eat insects, native tadpoles and eggs, native bird eggs and even small mammals.
‘You can remove cane toads with gloves and a bucket. We do not recommend removing them with bare hands to avoid contact with their toxic parotid glands.’
