Are you having trouble finding emails in Gmail? Google’s new filter could soon ease your headaches
Google could add a handy new filter to its Gmail app that will make it easier to find emails that are lost somewhere in your inbox.
As things stand now, you can type in your search term here, and Gmail will return some “top results” as the most likely suggestions for what you want to find, and some other results (labeled “results in emails”) below in date order (from the most recent, going back chronologically).
The new filter is placed below the search bar and allows the Gmail user to choose between highlighting ‘most relevant’ and ‘most recent’. Hopefully, switching will make it easier to find a particular email if it doesn’t immediately appear after your initial search.
Android Authority also notes that the cards that are normally only present in store order emails – which show order and shipping details – will also appear in search results.
Analysis: still early
Please note that this change is only present in the Gmail mobile app and not in the web version of Google’s email client. However, it could end up being the latter – that is, if anything comes out of the filter at all. Just because the feature is in the mobile app code doesn’t mean it will be realized. It could just be an idea that Google plays with and ultimately abandons (since it’s not even officially tested yet).
In case there was any doubt, Gmail remains the most popular email service, as evident in a recent Ny Breaking survey: nearly 70% of respondents said they used Google’s client. Google is of course continuing to develop Gmail, and we can expect AI to debut soon enough. In fact, Gemini is already available to Google Workspace users.
