Disney Lorcana’s Azurite Sea expansion gets the upstart TCG out of the doldrums

Disney LorcanaRavensburger’s new trading card game that competes Magic: the meetingthe Pokémon trading card gameAnd Star Wars Unlimited is out with, among other things, its sixth set of cards. The journey continues to the Azurite Sea with a solidly built, themed pair of starter decks, now available for pre-order. Honestly, it feels like this game is finally hitting its stride, with so many different fictional universes in the mix.

Azurite Sea‘s Emerald and Sapphire deck is led by the Rescue Rangers’ Gadget Hackwrench, Brilliant Bosun, and is all about keeping item cards in play. Once you have three on the table, the character cards with the keyword ‘inventor’ come into play for one less ink. And boy, hurray, this deck has a ton of them, including most of the cast Big hero 6; Goofy, expert shipbuilder; and another version of Gadget, subtitled Perceptive Mouse.

Meanwhile, the set’s Amber and Ruby deck features a much more motley crew led by Tigger, In The Crow’s Nest. Skilled hands include Fix It Felix, Jr., Jim Hawkins and John Silver from Treasure planetthe full complement of Peter Pan‘s Darling children, plus Moana and Jasmine both.

This deck finally brings the game’s location cards to the forefront thanks to Moana, Kakamora Leader. Her mass travel ability, called Gathering Forces, allows you to land a rogue regiment on distant beaches to score an acquaintance for every sailor who goes ashore.

The entire collection is well connected with ship-shaped art. After the fairly simple launch, it’s good to see that the mechanics all flow nicely with the theme.

Azurite Sea arrives at local retailers and select Disney Parks on November 15, with a wider release to follow.
