Humiliating moment Bears star Tyrique Stevenson is caught taunting crowd before allowing game-losing Hail Mary

Chicago Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson made a fatal mistake during the final seconds of Sunday’s loss.

Stevenson learned the hard way not to count his chickens until they hatch when the Bears suffered an excruciating loss to the Washington Commanders in a Hail Mary play in Week 8.

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams appeared to have won the battle for the 2024 No. 1 and 2 draft picks when he led what appeared to be a game-winning, 62-yard drive with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

However, his rival counterpart Jayden Daniels performed a miracle in the Windy City when he threw a game-winning 52-yard Hail Mary to Noah Brown with triple zeros on the clock.

It was a devastating blow to the Bears, but one player will suffer more from the loss than most.

Washington incredibly had to travel 76 yards in 25 seconds with one timeout and most fans in the stadium thought the game was over – including Stevenson.

The cornerback was caught taunting Commanders fans at the edge of the end zone as Washington began its Hail Mary attempt.

In fact, he was so confident that he incredibly had his back to the line of scrimmage when Washington grabbed the ball.

Caught off guard, Stevenson sprang into action, reaching for the ball but tapping it into Brown’s hands for Washington’s 18-15 win.

Daniels’ 52-yard Hail Mary was the longest game-winning touchdown since the 2018 “Miami Miracle.”

“We had those plays at the end, and it comes down to that last play,” Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said of the play.

“We’ve practiced that part a hundred times since we’ve been here,” he said. ‘I have to see what the execution was on that. We have a body on a body and box guys all the way out like basketball. We have one guy who is the rim, who knocks the ball over. We have a back tip guy who goes behind the pile. I have to look at it, work it out and make sure we are better next time.”

The game matched up starting quarterbacks Williams of Chicago, picked No. 1 overall out of Southern California, and Daniels, picked No. 2 overall out of LSU in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Daniels was ruled out of Sunday’s game after suffering a rib injury during the Commanders’ first game back from a scrimmage in a home win a week earlier against the Carolina Panthers. Daniels, who didn’t practice until Friday, was 21 of 38 for 326 yards and the score. He also ran eight times for 52 yards.
