Five people injured in horror gas explosion at a popular Aussie campground

Five people have been injured in a horror gas explosion at a popular campsite in South Australia.

Emergency services were called to the campsite in Myponga, south Adelaide, just after 4.20pm on Saturday after reports of a gas cylinder explosion.

A man and a woman, both 25, were taken to hospital by helicopter with facial burns and were in a serious condition, an SA Ambulance spokeswoman said.

Three others were taken to hospital by road, one with burns to their back and two with burns to their legs.

Myponga is a scenic part of South Australia that is popular among locals and visitors for hiking, fishing and kayaking.

Visitors also often come to Myponga Beach, which is just 15 minutes away from the Myponga Reservoir.

About 750 people live in the area, which is about an hour’s drive from Adelaide.
