Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos defends Guy Gansert amid news of past restraining order

Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos has opened up about the restraining order one of her suitors, ER doctor Guy Gansert, received several years ago.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Gansert’s ex-wife filed the protective order in 2021, accusing the Reno, Nevada native of threatening her.

Three years later, she withdrew the request and it remained hidden until Guy’s participation on The Golden Bachelorette.

“I feel like the Golden franchise is a little bit unique because we come here with a lot of history,” she said.

“We’ve lived a lot and it doesn’t surprise me at all that there are… people doing things that they might not be proud of later,” she said on Bachelor Nation’s Nick Viall’s podcast. The Viall files.

Expanding her thoughts on Guy’s past, she said, “I never saw that side of Guy or anyone else. My interactions with all the boys were pure and sweet and I would never have had any indication that he had a past.

‘I’m sorry he had a bad divorce, I knew that. I knew it was very difficult and he felt very guilty because he had destroyed the family because of the children,” she explained.

“I had no idea at the time what the interactions with his ex-wife were like, so I never suspected anything bad was going on.”

Gansert’s ex-wife reportedly told the court that the incident occurred as she left a gym with a friend and got into her car.

She said Gansert “placed something under the driver’s rear tire” and picked it up again before verbally assaulting her.

Guy tried to clarify things in an Instagram post last week, ahead of the Hometown Dates episode of the reality TV dating competition.

“This was an unfortunate situation that occurred during an incredibly stressful time for me and my ex-husband and was ultimately resolved when she voluntarily denied her request for a protective order. Together we came to a solution that was acceptable to both parties.’

He added: ‘My divorce was extremely difficult for me and led me to a very low point in my life, resulting in me acting in a way that does not represent who I am. The past few years have prompted me to conduct an in-depth personal evaluation, and I will always continue to work to improve myself.

Guy concluded by thanking his family, The Golden Bachelorette and Bachelor Nation, for their “exceptional support during the most difficult times in my life.” I am eternally grateful to them.’

Speaking of Guy’s family, on the most recent episode of The Golden Bachelorette, Joan went on dates to Chicago, Reno, and Kansas with Guy, Jordan, Pascal, and Chock.

Her first visit was to Reno to meet Guy’s family. Before the great inquisition by the Gansert clan, they took a ride on his boat on beautiful Lake Tahoe and fans were able to see how Joan assessed the situation in a positive way.

Once they got to his house and she met his people, it was a love-fest with Guy’s children and siblings telling her she was “just right for them.”

And Guy admitted his icy heart was melting after the divorce and that he had ‘fallen’ for her ‘big time’ and could ‘imagine time together in the future’.
