Bombshell development in Married at First Sight ‘runaway bride’ Lauren Bran’s case – as property developer husband learns his fate over restraining order bust up

The ex-boyfriend of a former MAFS star’s property developer – who fled from her firefighter groom on their wedding night – has walked away from court with a $1000 fine and community service for flouting AVOs.

Lauren Bran was dubbed the ‘MAFS runaway bride’ during season 4 of the hit reality show in 2017 after dumping her new husband, Andrew ‘Jonesy’ Jones, in a Bondi pub just hours after their on-screen wedding.

Weeks later, she posted loved-up photos with her new boyfriend Jake Barnett – a bankrupt property developer and single father of two from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire – during a trip to Hamilton Island.

But their relationship quickly deteriorated and ended when police issued four apprehended violence orders against him on her behalf – the first of which was in 2017, just two months after their island getaway.

The orders were in effect for two years, during which time he was prohibited from approaching her, destroying her property, assaulting or threatening her.

Earlier this year, Barnett appeared in court on three counts of breaching an AVO and one count of stalking and harassment.

He was denied bail and was eventually retained by famed attorney Bryan Wrench to defend him.

A friend of Ms Bran told Daily Mail Australia she was ‘shocked’ by the outcome.

In June, Barnett pleaded guilty at Waverley Local Court to one charge of breaching an AVO. He was sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order.

In September he appeared at the Downing Center in Sydney and pleaded guilty to a second charge of breaching an AVO.

According to court documents, Mr Barnett ‘knowingly’ breached an apprehended violence order between 10.09am and 7.20pm on April 4, 2024.

He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and was sentenced to an additional nine months of community corrections.

The further charge of breach of the AVO and stalking was withdrawn and dismissed.

Ms Bran previously revealed she met Mr Barnett while she was at a pub in the Sutherland Shire with her mother, a week after leaving the MAFS groom.

He walked over to her table, asked her out and bought her mother a cup of tea.

“We just fell into each other’s laps,” she said at the time.

“Jake is also a successful property developer from the Sutherland Shire, and I am now working with him within a company that has just launched a new $50 million development site.

‘He shares the same drive, ambition, values and morals as I do.’

In 2021, a concrete company Mr. Barnett went bankrupt due to an unpaid $7,000 bill.
