Zoom plans new genAI capabilities for healthcare providers

Suki announced new plans this week to partner with Zoom Video Communications for artificial intelligence telehealth.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT
The companies say Zoom will use Suki’s AI engine, Suki Platform, to generate clinical notes and integrate other automation tools to improve provider experience and patient care.

Suki’s technology will help enhance clinical documentation during Zoom telehealth visits and in-person visits.

“We feel a great responsibility to leverage the power of AI to drive employee productivity and improve patient experiences,” said Smita Hashim, chief product officer at Zoom, noting that nearly 140,000 healthcare organizations worldwide now use the platform.

“Partnering with Suki to provide Zoom Workplace for Clinicians with critical AI-generated clinical note functionality reduces documentation overhead for clinicians, allowing them to focus on patients,” she says.

THE BIG TREND
Suki develops voice AI tools for healthcare organizations, including its flagship product Suki Assistant, which uses generative AI to automate clinical documentation with ambient listening during the patient encounter. The company claims it can help doctors complete notes as much as 72% faster on average.

The Suki platform now enables companies of all sizes to build advanced AI experiences with minimal development effort and already reaches nearly a million physicians in the United States.

Rush University is just one healthcare system partnering with Suki to offer a range of AI capabilities, including environmental note generation and seamless coding, to its physicians to help alleviate documentation burden and burnout.

About a year ago, meanwhile, Zoom unveiled a suite of new AI tools for healthcare organizations that could help medical staff and practice team members improve their productivity and collaborate more effectively.

ON THE RECORD
“AI is changing the way we interact with the world,” Suki CEO Punit Soni said in a statement. “Everything from the way we communicate to the way we use technology and the way care is delivered will evolve.

“Video will be a crucial interface in the AI-powered world. We are excited to work with Zoom to develop new interaction models and AI that will advance our mission to make healthcare technology invisible and assistive so physicians can focus on what matters most: their patients.”
