Aussies divided over $150K Mercedes controversial number plate

A license plate on a luxury car that appears to refer to the Australian Social Security Administration has divided the internet.

CNTRLNK’s cheeky license plates were spotted on the back of a black Mercedes C-Class sedan stopped at traffic lights in Perth on Sunday.

A stunned Australian shared a photo of the $150,000 vehicle on Reddit.

“I saw this license plate today,” they captioned the photo.

“I highly doubt who owns this [Mercedes] is on Centrelink’.

Many Aussies were unimpressed by the records as the cost of living continues to worsen.

“It will clearly frustrate those who, through no fault of their own, or health wise, are on Centrelink. Hopefully the driver grows up one day,” one person wrote.

Another added: ‘Yes, I understand it’s a joke, but there’s something very tasteless about rich people belittling the poor.’

A third wrote: ‘You can’t even buy a Mercedes part on Centrelink.’

Others saw the funny side and praised the Mercedes driver for his sense of humor.

“It’s a pretty funny sign,” one viewer wrote.

Another added: “I can actually imagine some people [taking] this seriously.’

Displaying personalized or customized number plates is legal in Australia.

Motorists can apply for customized number plates through the relevant road authorities in their state or territory.

Other number plates have also gone viral, with a motorist praising a driver’s ‘clever’ disguise of a rude word on his vehicle in March this year.

The plate numbers and letters – 370HSSV – seemed completely conventional.

However, when the sign was turned upside down, eagle-eyed motorists noticed it had the word ‘a*****e’ on it.
