Trans golfer opens up on decision to stop competing against biological females

A transgender golfer who has opted out of competing against biological women has opened up about their decision amid outrage from the LGBTQ+ community.

Nicole Powers competed in a number of different sports as a trans woman, including tennis, skiing and golf, before making the decision never to compete against women again.

“I had to take a step back and realize that biological reality is real and that there will always be competitive advantages, regardless of the number of years or what surgeries and hormones you’ve had, and then I realized that my place is not in women’s sports.” , says Powers. said in an interview with Surpass.

The golfer’s position goes against that of the LGBTQ+ community, which has long argued that trans women are still women and therefore deserve to compete with other women.

After making the decision, Powers revealed that coaches and even other competitors urged them to reconsider and continue playing against female opponents.

“The response was almost the same as many of these events I participate in,” they continued. ‘It’s very shocking in the sense of ‘well no, no, no, you belong here’, even when I say ‘no, I don’t’. They still continue to try to push the agenda that you are a trans woman and we continue to support you in women’s sports.

“Think about this carefully, you’re a woman, and that’s what they say.”

Powers, that one GoFundMe page titled ‘Support Nicole’s mission to save women’s sports’ In hopes of changing the narrative around trans women competing in male sports, they even admitted that they wouldn’t give 100 percent in competitions because it felt like they had an unfair advantage over biological women.

“I didn’t want to raise any flags,” Powers added. “So when I’m on the tee box with three other women, I’m not just going to bomb a drive out on the fairway 310, 315 yards, even though I knew I could.

‘Despite my lifelong transition or transition of more than ten years, I knew I could do that, but instead I might put the club down; Take a little bit off my game because I didn’t want to raise those flags,” Powers said.

‘In the back of my mind I was playing in professional tournaments all couple of years, I knew I wouldn’t feel good if I won trophies [from women].’

The topic of transgender athletes in women’s sports is highly controversial, with female boxer Imane Khelif’s participation in the Olympics last summer sparking heavy controversy.

The San Jose State women’s volleyball team is also at the center of a class-action lawsuit after allegedly fielding a transgender player against other teams, with multiple opponents subsequently withdrawing from matches against them.

“I don’t know what the governing bodies should do, but they should listen to female athletes,” Powers concluded. “Women, grown human women, they need to listen to those athletes, listen to their pain points and understand that change needs to happen. There must be a clear line in the sand.

‘And it is not from a position of discrimination at all. It’s just from a position of fairness, from the original reason why we have women’s sports and men’s sports.”
