Neighbours star Ryan Moloney reveals shock new career: ‘It started as a hobby’

Ryan Moloney has revealed a surprising new career move.

The former Neighbors star, who left the soap in September, has become a beekeeper.

The beloved actor, who played Jarrod ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi on the television series for thirty years, is passionate about sustainability.

He lives off-the-grid on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, where his family generates their own power and water.

The 44-year-old told me Yahoo lifestyle he has become more involved in beekeeping since leaving Ramsay Street.

“The bees started as a hobby and quickly turned into a small business,” he said.

“I love how in tune you have to be when you work with them, and the puzzles they give you with every inspection,” the TV star added.

Earlier this year, Ryan announced that he and Toadfish will be saying goodbye to the long-running drama series.

He shared the devastating news with fans in a video shared to Neighbors’ Instagram page, detailing his next steps in his career.

‘After thirty years of playing Toadie, I’m leaving Ramsay Street. I can’t tell you what happens to the character – maybe I could be the next Jim Robinson,” he wrote.

“Or maybe I’ll be the next Harold Bishop and keep coming back through the years.”

Ryan said he’s not leaving TV behind completely and will continue working behind the camera after recently completing directing training.

“While I won’t be bringing you our fantastic storylines from in front of the camera, I will be bringing them to you from the other side, behind the camera,” he continued.

‘I’ve just started directing training and just finished filming my first episode as a director, so I really hope you like that.

He concluded: “Thank you all for the love you have shown me and Toadie over the years. I’m going to miss you, and I’m going to miss him and I’m going to miss Erinsborough.’

His shock exit comes a year after Neighbors returned to screens on Amazon Freevee, not long after the show was canceled and the finale aired on Network 10 in July 2022.

Ryan has become one of Neighbors’ most recognizable faces since first appearing on Ramsay Street as Toadie in 1995.
