Boxing big name who has worked with multiple world champions tells Tim Tszyu to RETIRE to protect his health

A boxing matchmaker who has worked with several world champions has urged Tim Tszyu to retire to protect his health after the Australian star was demolished in three rounds by Bakhram Murtazaliev on Sunday night.

The 29-year-old fighter has now lost back-to-back fights and questions now hang over his next career move.

Tsyu was defeated by Sebastian Fundora in March and returned to face Murtazaliev for the IBF super welterweight belts in Florida.

But the Aussie star looked sluggish in the ring, with his Russian opponent knocking him down three times in the second round, landing Tsyu with some brutal punches.

Bravely, the Australian would continue to fight, but a strong left hand in the third round proved too much for Tszyu, who fell to the canvas again. Admirably, he got back to his feet and continued fighting, but as Murtazaliev continued to unleash a series of attacks on his opponent, Tszyu’s corner threw in the towel and conceded the fight.

Questions now remain over who Tszyu should fight next, with his long-standing rival Michael Zerafa calling him out on social media on Sunday.

Despite this, some have called for Tszyu to hang up the gloves, including boxing matchmaker Rick Glaser.

Glaser has worked with 36 current champions, ex-champions and other top fighters during his career.

He also notably worked for former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes and was also employed by Roy Jones and noted promoter Don King.

But Glaser gave his opinion on Tsyu’s defeat, writing on X (formerly Twitter): ‘If I were to advise #TimTszyu, I would definitely advise him to retire. Sad to say, but it’s definitely the wise choice for Tim.

‘Hopefully he makes that sensible decision. His long-term health depends on it. #Australia #boxing’

A devastated Tszyu was left stunned after what happened in the ring after the fight.

“What the hell just happened?” Tszyu, who was in disbelief, said.

‘What hit me? I couldn’t regroup and… I don’t know, man. S*** ain’t going your way and you just gotta bounce back, you know. After Fundora I was positive.’

It was a devastating second-round performance from Murtazaliev as he claimed victory over Tszyu, with the Russian landing 32 punches to the Australian’s 17, according to Compubox.

Twenty-eight of those strikes were power punches with the Russian fighter knocking Tszyu to the ground three times.

Some boxing fans on social media questioned Glaser’s call for Tsyu to retire, with one writing: “You want everyone to retire Rick.”

The matchmaker replied, “No, only those who should no longer fight.”

Another claimed that Tszyu needed a year to get back to his best shape.

“I don’t agree, he needs a good year to recover and have some tune-up battles. He is still young and with some time he can recover and regain his self-confidence,” the X user wrote.

But Glaser replied again: “His motor skills and impact resistance are gone.”

One fan felt that Glaser’s comments came a little too early, claiming that Tszyu just needed to work on his defense.

“That’s a bit premature,” the X user wrote. ‘You act as if he’s been hit like that before. Fundora defeated a blind Tim who was in the fight as much as he could. Bakhram caught him with some really good punches. Tim needs to work on defense and bounce back with some easy touches.”

But Glaser replied: “Michael, it has nothing to do with winning and losing, Tszyu is completely shot, he is now slow and has no battle resistance anymore. Game over.”
