Commonwealth Bank hit by glitch which is seeing customers being charged twice for a single payment

Banking giant Commonwealth Bank has been hit by a major duplicate payment problem, with angry customers demanding answers.

Hundreds of customers reported a service disruption on Saturday morning, with some experiencing overdrafts on their accounts, while others claim they have been left without money in their accounts.

In a statement on X, Commonwealth Bank said it was aware of the problem.

“We are aware that some customers are seeing duplicate transactions when making payments,” the bank said.

‘We are working to urgently reverse these transactions and any fees charged will be refunded.

‘We’re sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for being patient with us.”

Social media was flooded with messages from outraged customers reporting duplicate transactions were being processed.

An irate customer branded the bank a ‘disgrace’.

Hundreds of CommBank customers are reporting a service outage on Saturday morning, with some experiencing overdrafts on their accounts, while others claim they have been left without money in their accounts.

“Me and my partner are now stuck in Queensland and can’t get to the airport because our cards have been redacted,” they said.

‘We’re going to miss our flights! We can’t get an Uber home even if we have to go to the airport!’

Another said they would ditch the sofa altogether.

“As soon as I get my money back, I will switch to another bank,” they said.

“This goes beyond just a simple apology.”

Another said their family was stranded because their account was overdrawn.

“You overdrew my account, leaving me and my family stranded this weekend. I want answers,” they said.

On Instagram, TV presenter Jacqui Falgate said she had been on hold at the bank for more than an hour.

“CommBank had a system update between midnight and 4am and they processed duplicate transactions from a few days ago,” she said.

‘I’ve been on hold for over an hour now trying to speak to someone who’s having no luck.

“They debited my transaction account and the only way I can access my money is if I transfer the debit account and pay the overdue balance.

“I refuse to do that because it would be a nightmare to get it back from them.”

There’s more to come.
