A major explosion killed three people with a gunpowder factor working 24/7 to make missile launchers and air defense systems for the war in Ukraine.

Perm Gunpowder Plant, which produces Grad and Smerch weapons for Russian troops, reportedly went up in flames.

Video footage showed a plume of smoke rising in the distance, with some witnesses claiming to have seen the explosion at the time of the attack.

Two of those killed are said to have been burned alive, while more are feared dead and could be buried under the rubble.

The building also makes aircraft missile motor payloads, cruise missile booster systems, and products for the A-135 missile defense system.

Reports suggested there was an explosion and fire in major manufacturing sector 12 around 8pm on Saturday.

The explosion took place on suspicion of sabotage in connection with a series of explosions fires in key Russian sites during the war.

The Russian Commission of Inquiry — which is seen as similar to the FBI in Russia — is investigating Saturday’s blast, reports say.

Last month, the Perm ammunition factory announced it had recruited an additional 350 employees to boost Putin’s war effort.

According to reports, there was an explosion and fire in the major factory sector around 8 p.m. on Saturday 12

The extra manpower was to enable the factory to work in three shifts for 24 hours to supply ammunition for the war in Ukraine.

It follows reports that Russia has been short of missiles to attack Ukraine.

An earlier explosion at the same Perm defense factory occurred on May 1, killing three women.

In the earlier explosion in May, an eyewitness told Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper: “The building just flew into the sky.”

A woman named Svetlana “couldn’t even run outside, but the other girls fled – they were all burned.

“Olga had 100 percent burns on the body. She wasn’t even taken to the hospital.

“But Ulyana was alive, she had 99 percent burns and her second-grade son is waiting for her at home.

‘I don’t know how to get to work anymore. I cried all night.’

The dead explosives workers were named as Svetlana Bardakova, 59, Olga Savishchenko, 43, and Ulyana Frants, 36.
