Courteney Cox, 60, says it has been hard seeing her daughter Coco, 20, go off to college this year

Courteney Cox didn’t understand the empty nest problem until after her daughter’s freshman year of college.

The Friends star, 60, opened up about her experiences during a chat with the Inc. on Thursday. 5000 45th Annual Conference and Gala in Palm Desert, CA, per People.

The actress, who shares her daughter Coco, 20, with ex-husband David Arquette, 53, told the audience: “It’s weird because people get mad the first year your kid goes to school and I’m like, ‘What is the problem? She doesn’t talk to me, she’s always in her room.”

The Scream star said it hit her after Coco returned home for the summer holidays.

“Then she comes home after her freshman year of college and she was all grown up and talking more,” Cox explained.

“And I mean, she’s incredible. She is a very special, smart and funny child,” she said of her only child.

“But then I thought, I don’t want you to go back to college,” she admitted to the audience. “The second year was harder for me.”

Neither Cox nor Arquette have revealed where their daughter is enrolling.

Cox posted a sweet mother-daughter photo on social media as she revealed she had named a skincare line after Coco as part of her Home Court brand.

“I’m so excited to introduce the Cocomoi Body Collection, our new line of luxurious essential body care products,” she wrote, introducing the line with “refined scents with notes of coconut, cedarwood and fig.”

The company’s founder explained that the new scent “takes cues from my signature scent Cece, which symbolizes my connection with my daughter Coco… The inspiration for Cocomoi.”

Fans of the Scream franchise are eagerly awaiting to see if Cox will sign on for the seventh film in the series.

The actress has played main character Gail Weathers since the first Scream came out in 1996.

‘I’m not officially registered. I won’t, but there will be a Scream 7,” she said Variety in September.

‘They are constantly rewriting. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on,” she said.

The actress still has time to make a decision.

The outlet reported that filming would begin in December in Atlanta.
