‘Tornado’ strikes Aussie town and cuts off electricity

- Broken Hill runs on a generator for power
A tornado is believed to be responsible for leaving a major regional city in total darkness after seven power towers were destroyed.
Residents of Broken Hill, in the far west of the NSW outback, are now relying on a diesel generator after being destroyed by a megastorm on Wednesday.
Peripheral cities will remain in darkness from Friday.
“The damage to infrastructure south of Broken Hill is consistent with… the possible presence of a tornado,” a Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said.
