NRL stars dig deep to help get Jesse Ramien and his family home from Bali after premature birth of his son Teo

Jesse Ramien’s frantic efforts to get his six-week premature baby back to Australia from a Bali hospital were helped by a host of fellow NRL stars.

Teo Ramien was born on October 11 – and the Cronulla Sharks center and his wife Shell are desperate for a care flight home for their medically induced newborn.

The cost is almost $130,000 and almost $57,000 has been raised so far.

It follows a GoFund Me page is created by Shavaun Hunt – the wife of Sharks forward Royce Hunt.

As it stands, the Sharks and the NRL are working closely with the Australian Embassy in Indonesia to stamp the necessary paperwork that would see Teo flown to Australian shores.

After his birth, Teo had to be resuscitated for five minutes.

Many NRL players – from rival clubs – were quick to donate to the charity, including players like AJ Brimson, Keaon Koloamatangi, Sitili Tupouniua, Jacob Saifiti, Taane Milne and Hame Sele.

Sharks players assisting were Nicho Hynes, Siosifa Talakai, Brit Nikora, Jack Williams, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Blayke Brailey and Billy Burns.

But news of Ramien’s family dilemma has left football fans divided as the center reportedly earns $600,000 a year.

The comment sparked an online debate, with @LeagueScenePod replying: “This isn’t it,” referring to the commenter’s opinion.

“Yes, if you want to give Jesse and his family your hard-earned money in any way you can
 I’m just saying, it’s a little rich to reach out if you’re a professional athlete
 I’d say the same thing .’ if it was a player from the club I supported,” @EAGLER0CK responded.

“Something you just can’t plan for,” the @LeagueScenePod replied. “I doubt you’re counting a cost-of-living crisis and an emergency of this gratitude.”

‘I wish them all the best. Horrible conditions. I really hope they can fix it ASAP,” said another.

‘But this doesn’t read the room very well. Most fans couldn’t fathom what he gets paid. Where is his club? Where are his teammates who make as much or more than him? Really bad taste if you ask me.’

Ramien stated that he will ‘play for nothing’ if it means his son gets home safely.

His wife Shell was 33 weeks pregnant and the couple received permission from her midwife before leaving Sydney.

This was in addition to airline approval and travel insurance coverage for her pregnancy.
