With Google Flights, you can now prioritize super-cheap flights over convenience
Google Flights is adding new options to help you find the absolute cheapest deal on your next vacation, if you’re willing to make your trip a little more complex and less convenient.
If you’ve used Google Flights before to find cheap airline tickets, the results are determined based on an algorithm that balances price and convenience. However, if you’re willing to sacrifice some of the latter, there could be a better deal out there, and that’s where the new ‘Cheapest’ tab comes in.
As you browse the options within Google Flights, you can now toggle from Best to Cheapest to see the cheapest options. Maybe they come from a third-party booking site instead of the airline, or it could be that Google suggests a tour that starts and ends at different airports in the same city.
Google’s official blog adds that other inconveniences may include flights with longer layovers, self-transfers, or buying different parts of your trip on different booking sites.
Of course, there are some important additional factors to consider with these trickier options. If you fly to and from different airports you will likely have to rely on a taxi, public transport or a friend to drop you off or pick you up, which may incur additional coastal costs, and if you arrange a transfer yourself you will need to u You are responsible for collecting your luggage and checking it on your next flight. If delays occur, you could be stranded at an airport that is not your destination.
But if you’re willing to take on these additional inconveniences and risks, the new Cheapest tab is worth exploring if you’re simply looking for the lowest price possible – and even if you’re more risk-averse, it’s worth it worth taking a look at. if the savings can tempt you.
