Police release footage of NFL star Christian Barmore’s arrest after he accused cops of ‘racism at its finest’

Police in Providence, Rhode Island have released body camera footage of a traffic stop involving New England Patriots star Christian Barmore – a stop that led the football player to accuse police of racism.

In the video, officers are heard talking to Barmore’s mother over the phone and asking the player to get out of the vehicle.

Barmore’s mother asks for a supervisor before anything else happens because he is on blood thinners. Barmore has not played for the Patriots this season due to blood clots.

Police then inform both Barmore and his mother that a supervisor will be ten minutes away before once again ordering him to get out of the vehicle and informing him that “your car will be towed anyway.”

When Barmore’s mother tells her son to roll up the windows, police are seen opening the door of his car. Barmore is seen and heard saying, “I didn’t do anything to y’all!… I dare touch y’all, nigga. I dare you all to touch me, I will sue you all.”

After threatening to pull him out of the vehicle, Barmore eventually gets out and again tells police not to touch him. Officers are seen taking control of Barmore and pushing him away from the door of the vehicle.

The officer whose body camera captured the recording is then seen checking the vehicle as officers threaten to “lock up” Barmore. Authorities then conduct a search of the vehicle, with an officer stating “there’s nothing in the car.”

Officers eventually towed his Jeep away, according to a police report.

That partially redacted incident report was provided to DailyMail.com and reveals Barmore was stopped for a traffic violation around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Barmore, who is listed as a suspect, is charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to properly display license plates and driving with an expired license plate.

In a statement to WBZ News Boston, Providence police said the officer who stopped Barmore followed all regulations and protocols, adding, “We will continue to assess the situation to ensure proper procedures were followed and to maintain transparency with the public.

“If there are any concerns or questions regarding this incident, we encourage Mr. Barmore to contact the Providence Police Department so we can address them in a constructive manner.”

An additional statement from Colonel Oscar Perez (via golocalprov.com) said, “The Providence Police Department takes all concerns raised by the public very seriously and with the utmost professionalism. In this particular case, the vehicle in question was found to be unregistered during a routine traffic stop, which is a violation of the law.

“The officer acted in full compliance with department protocols and state regulations. We understand that any encounter with law enforcement can be difficult, but it is important to note that officers are required to enforce all applicable laws, including those regarding vehicle registration.”

Patriots spokespeople did not respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

The Providence Police Department has previously faced accusations of racism. In 2015, a sergeant was fired for making racist comments about civilians and even his fellow officers. Five years later, a recruit sued the department over racial harassment claims, and in 2022, a local strip club sued Providence police over racial profiling.

This obviously isn’t the first time a Patriots player has had a difficult exchange with officers this year. Notably, safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested earlier this month in Braintree, Massachusetts, where he was accused of assaulting and choking his girlfriend before pushing her down the stairs.

Officers say they later found cocaine in his wallet.

The 29-year-old has since been charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation and possession of a class B substance.

In fact, if the allegations are substantiated, owner Robert Kraft recently said Peppers will be “gone.”

“The easiest thing would have been to cut it right away, but we’re trying to measure nine times and get it right,” Kraft told The Breakfast Club podcast. “If the facts are as publicly reported, then he is not one of us.

In another incident, rookie receiver Javon Baker filmed himself on Instagram complaining about being ticketed for a moving violation.

“Some hating cops in Massachusetts,” Baker said.

First-year head coach Jerod Mayo discussed the matter with Baker before speaking to reporters about his social media post.

“Everything you just said in no way represents what the organization stands for, in no way represents what we stand for as a team or how Javon should go out and represent himself,” Mayo told reporters.

“We handled it internally,” he continued. ‘We had a good conversation. I think it’s a combination of immaturity and realizing the grand plan. We’re standing here on a big stage and you can’t do those things. As far as our relationship with law enforcement and the like, I think it’s excellent, and we’ll continue to strengthen that relationship going forward.”

The 1-5 Patriots are in London this week to take on the 1-5 Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Barmore remains on the reserve/non-football injury list as he deals with blood clots.
