Queensland woman is mauled by Staffordshire while walking her pet dog Chelsea – marking fourth canine attack in less than a week

A woman and her wiener dog have been attacked by an out-of-control American Staffordshire cross, making it the fourth dog attack in a week.

Lee-Anne Shaw was walking her dachshund in Caboolture, South East Queensland, when the Staffy jumped over the owner’s fence and attacked the pair on Sunday.

Ms Shaw said the Staffy knocked her to the ground before trying to attack her dog Chelsea.

Staffy’s owner Jerimie Tipler denied that his two-year-old dog, Loki, was dangerous, saying he “just doesn’t like other dogs trying to get him through the fence.”

Moreton Bay Council has since seized Loki and is now trying to determine the appropriate course of action for the dog, which is also unregistered.

Mr Tipler said the council told him his dog was considered a threat after the attack and an investigation was now underway to determine Loki’s fate.

Ms Shaw’s attack is the fourth in a week across Australia, with the first occurring in Carindale when a dog was mauled to death on Wednesday.

Jordan Garrett was attacked by three dogs in Melbourne’s south-east on Thursday and had her arm severed by her own ‘large breed pit bull’ in Townsville on Friday.

Ms Shaw said Loki knocked her over and immediately started laying on Chelsea, who was almost ‘torn in half’ during the attack.

“While I was on the ground he kept jumping on me and kept trying to attack my sausage dog,” she says told 7News.

“I do know that dog was about to tear my dog in half because he was just inches from her back legs. It kept snapping at her.”

Mr Tipler insisted his dog was a “good boy” who posed no threat to the public.

“He does what he’s told, when he’s told,” he said.

Moreton Bay Council said it has a zero tolerance policy for dangerous dogs.

Mrs. Shaw strongly supported the idea that Loki should be “put down in an instant” due to his size.

Mr Tipler apologized for the damage caused by his dog.

The attacks across Australia have reignited debate over whether the list of restricted dog breeds should be expanded.

Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa, American Pit Bull Terrier and Presa Canario are the only breeds currently restricted in Queensland.

“It’s not something I personally have a particularly strong opinion about, but I’m open to discussion about it at the state level,” one local resident wrote on Reddit.

“I think an argument can be made that some breeds tend to be more fearful and aggressive, which doesn’t mix well if the breed is also large enough to cause serious damage if they are so inclined.”

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Moreton Bay Council for comment.
