Triple M radio legend announces shock departure from network after 16 years
Gus Worland has announced that he will leave Triple M at the end of this year after a 16-year spell.
Worland, 55, who first rose to popularity as part of Triple M’s iconic Grill Team, recently hosted The Rush Hour on 104.9 Triple M Sydney.
After almost eight years working with his mental fitness charity Gotcha4Life, Worland has decided to leave radio and focus on his mental health advocacy full-time.
Worland’s final show on Triple M will air at the end of this year and it is not yet known who will replace him on the network.
Known for his blend of humor and genuine connection with listeners, the longtime radio host’s announcement has come as a shock to fans.
In a statement on Monday, Worland – a long-time friend of Hugh Jackman – thanked his colleagues and behind-the-scenes staff as he confirmed his departure.
“From my early days with Matty Johns, Mark Geyer and Chris Page, through to my current team with Jude Bolton and Aaron Woods, I have been fortunate to work with some fantastic people,” he said.
“I am especially grateful to the team who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the shows going.”

Although he will be stepping down from his day-to-day role at Triple M, he assures fans he will be no stranger and will appear as a guest on shows in the future.
Matthew O’Reilly, head of Triple M Metro Content, praised Worland’s contributions during his 16 years at the network, saying: ‘Gus has been an integral part of the Triple M family for 16 years.
“We understand his desire to focus on Gotcha4Life, which has an incredible impact on the community. We wish him all the best and know he will always be a beloved member of the Triple M family.”
His fans and colleagues have also expressed their admiration and support on social media.
Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac wrote: ‘Excellent innings Gus. You should be proud of all you have achieved, especially in the field of mental health through Triple M. I’m very excited to see what the future holds with @gotcha4life.”
Comedian Julia Morris interjected: “Call me if you need some of that big belly laugh.” Balance jx,” while Married At First Sight star Duncan James added: “Well done mate, inspiration @gusworland.”
Gus’ time at Triple M included stints as a commentator for the channel’s cricket broadcasts, a role he enthusiastically embraced.
He is also known to be best friends with Hollywood icon Hugh Jackman, and the pair regularly get insight into their antics on Worland’s radio show.

In July, Jackman and his co-star Ryan Reynolds hilariously hijacked his hit Australian radio show during their Deadpool & Wolverine promotion.
Australian actor Jackman, 55, was disappointed when they couldn’t fit in a trip Down Under due to their busy press schedule for the latest Marvel action film.
But that didn’t stop him from hilariously surprising his best friend of 50 years, Worland, during his Triple M and LiSTNR radio show The Rush Hour.
Gus and his co-host, former AFL star Jude Bolton, opened the airwaves to listener calls, with Wolverine star Hugh coming in on the other end of the line.
The radio hosts were left in stitches when Jackman answered the call and joked that the only way he could talk to Worland was to call him at his workplace.
They then quizzed Jackman about who the best friend really is, as he and Reynolds, 47, have become known for declaring themselves best friends during their promotional tour.
Jackman reassured Worland, insisting, “I could say on camera that we’re the best of friends, but you know I don’t mean it.”
To which Worland hit back with: “I hope you don’t mean it, I’m getting a little jealous to be honest.”

Jackman then got involved as he insisted he only befriended Reynolds because of his impressive bank balance.
He joked, “Gussy, I’m not being shallow at all, but have you seen how much money Ryan has? It’s like a new competition!’
Worland and Jackman have been close friends since they first met at the age of five, when they were set up by their teacher at Pymble Public School in the 1970s.
Their friendship has lasted more than five decades and the pair often enjoy nights out and holidays together.
