Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has shed light on his heated back and forth with his New England contemporary Robert Kraft.
Earlier this week, news broke that Jones had told Kraft, “don’t fuck with me” at Tuesday’s owners’ meeting in New York City.
The Cowboys GM was the only “no” vote to allowing the owners’ compensation committee to open talks about a new deal for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Jerry Jones, often one of the NFL’s most important figures, made headlines again this week
According to sources on ESPNJones eventually told Kraft “Don’t f*** with me” during the proceedings.
Kraft replied, “Excuse me?” to which Jones repeated, “Don’t mess with me.” After this exchange, the measure was adopted.
DailyMail.com has reached out to the NFL, New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys for comment.
During Jones’ regular spot on Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan, he addressed the situation, but virtually confirmed an explosive exchange with the known owner of the Patriots.
Jones expressed his disapproval of the way the NFL commissioner’s new deal could be constructed
“You express yourself with people you know and people you hang out with a lot…in different ways,” Jones began Friday.
“It is probably correct that I expressed myself in a way that is probably not to your liking.”
Jones is never far from the limelight, sometimes through his own hands, but this latest leak was out of his control – although he admits he wasn’t surprised.
“I’ve just gotten used to the fact that if you say something, it’s very likely to be recorded or heard and repeated,” Jones noted.
Robert Kraft was on the receiving end of a strong verbal reprimand from his Cowboys counterpart
“In a meeting that you’d think would really have a lot of exclusivity or protection so you could really express your feelings — I’m not surprised it would come out.”
Jones has previously opposed new contracts for the NFL’s commissioner, with his grievances largely stemming from Goodell’s compensation.
Goodell is now reportedly paid primarily through performance bonuses awarded after consultation with a committee. Previously, his pay structure was largely salaried.

Sources say Jones is wary of how bonuses will be structured in Goodell’s new contract and wishes it to focus around more binary financial targets and metrics.
Jones himself repeated that on Friday, but did reveal that he was in favor of Goodell’s renewal as commissioner.
“What you heard from me was a problem with the structure – with how we were going to address the commissioner and his success,” he said.
“I was actually expressing myself in that area. Not my support for Roger – I actually got up and nominated for his potential extension.”
