Shakira has often sung about heartbreak, but her latest music video seems to indicate that the lyrics may be personal.
The release of Monotonía comes four months after the 45-year-old hitmaker and her former partner, Gerard Piqué, 35, announced they were splitting after 11 years together.
In the video, Shakira’s character is seen walking around a grocery store with a sullen look on her face as someone fires a rocket-propelled grenade out of nowhere and shoots a hole in her chest.
New single: Shakira, 45, literally loses heart in her latest music video, Monotonía, released four months after her breakup with longtime beau, Gerard Piqué, 35
The character’s still beating heart is pumped to the ground.
As she struggles to pick up the missing organ, the male character, played by Puerto Rican singer Ozuna, 30, accuses, “yo sabia que esto pasaria, de repente que eres el mismo” (“I knew this would happen , you are the same)’ to which Shakira replies ‘me dejasta por tu narcissismo’ (‘you left me for your narcissism.’)
Later, as she walks through busy city sidewalks, she encounters several men, stumbles and drops the heart on the floor, which a passer-by steps on.

Ozuna, 30, is featured in the single as Shakira’s love interest. They trade barbs first and blame each other for their breakup
Picking it up, she sings “No fue culpa tuya/Ni tampoco mía/Fue culpa de la monotonía.” (“It wasn’t your fault, nor mine / It was the fault of monotony.)”
The character arrives at what appears to be a bank and carefully places her heart in a safety deposit box, locks it and carries the key with her.
Shakira co-directed the video with Jaume de la Iguana.
