Prime Minister-designate Omar Abdullah on Saturday said the delay in swearing in the new government in Jammu and Kashmir was due to the need to follow the procedures for revoking President’s rule in the Union Territory.

“There is a procedure. There has been talk of the presidency here for six years. A Cabinet note is needed to end the presidency. This should be sent to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which will then go to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“Then there were holidays — today was Dussehra and tomorrow is Sunday. God willing, if all these procedures are completed on Monday, then we will make our preparations on Tuesday and then God willing, we will take the oath on Wednesday ‘ said Abdullah.

When asked why there was a delay in government formation in the technology era, Abdullah said government formation has nothing to do with technology.

“We once tried to form the government through a fax machine, but the fax machine didn’t work. If you want to form our government through a fax machine, then we are in trouble. Keep the technology in your office, we will do it on our own way,” he said referring to the claim of government formation by the NC, PDP and Congress in 2018.

The parties had then sent the claim to the Raj Bhavan through a fax machine. But the Raj Bhavan said he did not receive the fax as the machine was not working and the then Governor Satyapal Malik dissolved the Assembly.

About the cricket league in Srinagar, the NC leader said that it is good to watch cricket matches under lights in the city.

Abdullah, whose current favorite cricketer is Virat Kohli, said his government would like to host cricket matches here, including the IPL.

‘We want them to happen and for that we need to renew our infrastructure.

“We need to increase the infrastructure in our cricket stadium. Then we can request the BCCI to hold matches here,” he added.
