World-renowned comedian Ben Elton has argued that cancel culture isn’t a “distance threatening” comedy that keeps saying “exactly what I want,” he says.

Speaking before last night’s one-off revival on the ’80s Channel 4 show Friday Night Live, Elton, 63, said that although the world had “changed”, he continues to express his thoughts and has not been cancelled.

In an interview with the BBC, he admitted that it is largely the comedian’s job to “bypass” the changes in clever and interesting ways.

“I’ve always had to pay attention to my language in different ways and I hope I’ve found smart and interesting ways to do it.”

Elton added that he had just given 150 gigs where he “said exactly what I wanted.”
