PM’s internship program records over 90,849 opportunities, says MCA

According to sources in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), the Prime Minister’s internship scheme has registered over 90,849 opportunities on Friday.
The internship portal, which was launched on a pilot basis on October 3, will be opened for applicants on Saturday evening.

Sources in the MCA said internship opportunities have been posted by 193 companies, including major private sector players such as Jubilant Foodworks, Maruti Suzuki India, Eicher Motor Ltd, Larsen & Toubro, Muthoot Finance and Reliance Industries.
The opportunities are spread across 24 sectors, with the largest share available in the oil, gas and energy sectors, followed by travel and hospitality, automotive, banking and financial services, among others.
The internships are available in more than 20 fields, including operations management, production and manufacturing, maintenance, sales and marketing, across 737 districts across the country.
The scheme would aim to provide 125,000 internship opportunities to youth aged 21 to 24 years in the financial year 2024-25 with a budget of Rs 800 crore.
The government aims to train one million youth in India’s top companies within five years through the internship program. The young people will be exposed to the real business environment, varied professions and employment opportunities over 12 months.
The eligibility criteria for internship candidates require that they have graduated from high school or high school, hold a certificate from an industrial training institute, hold a diploma from a polytechnic institute, or have a university degree. The persons must also be Indian citizens who are not fully employed or in full-time education. Those enrolled in online or distance learning programs are eligible to apply.
Candidates can browse internships based on their preferred industries, roles and locations and apply for up to five positions.
The MCA would provide a direct transfer of Rs 6,000 to the trainee on joining and a cover under Prime Minister Jeevan Jyoti Bima and Prime Minister Surakha Yojana. A financial assistance of Rs 5,000 per month would also be provided to the intern, of which Rs 4,500 would be disbursed by the government and Rs 500 would be paid by the company from its CSR funds.
