Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s clothes are headed to auction for $70,000

Style icon Carolyn Bessette –Kennedy’s clothes are auctioned at Sotheby’s with a hefty price tag of $70,000.

Carolyn is known for her low-key, luxe style, which has become a huge hit with Gen Z and millennial superfans who recreate her outfits on social media.

Now, 25 years after Carolyn’s tragic death, three of her jackets will be available at the second annual Fashion Icons auction in New York City.

After dating John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1996. married, the Calvin Klein publicist was catapulted into the spotlight and was often spotted by paparazzi wearing tight skirts, elegant outerwear and preppy headbands.

Carolyn gave all three pieces to her good friend, RoseMarie Terenziowho was JFK Jr.’s executive assistant and publicist, as well as his chief of staff at George magazine.

The Yohji Yamamoto black wool double-breasted jacket, the vintage double-breasted faux leopard fur coat and the Prada single-breasted black double-breasted wool coat are up for auction

A 1997 Italian size 40 single-breasted Prada wool coat is also up for auction and will sell for an estimated $15,000 to $20,000.

RoseMarie wrote in her memoir about her deep friendship with the couple, who are considered American royalty Fairy tale interrupted.

The author also described the items up for auction in the book, as well as Carolyn’s tailoring skills, describing her as her “fashion fairy godmother.”

RoseMarie recalled that Carolyn told her to try on the vintage faux leopard coat to wear on a first date with a “handsome media expert” and then told her, “It suits you perfectly.” You have to keep it.’

“Every time I went on a date, Carolyn would say, ‘What are you wearing? Come on down and we’ll pick something out for you,'” RoseMarie wrote in her memoir.

‘I’ve been photographed in it so many times, [the media] are going to make fun of me,” Carolyn said at the time.

The 1969 vintage double-breasted coat has no label and is estimated to sell for between $20,000 and $30,000.

A 1997 Italian size 40 single-breasted Prada wool coat will also be available and is estimated to cost between $15,000 and $20,000.

Carolyn loved the coat so much that she also had a beige and red tweed version.

The third item available is a Yohji Yamamoto black wool double-breasted jacket in an extra small, which Carolyn was photographed attending the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal event in 1997.

It is believed the vintage coat will sell for an estimated $15,000 to $20,000.

Despite Carolyn’s untimely death, her legacy lives on, especially as so many women recreate her ensembles and pay tribute to the fashion icon.

Last September, the first Fashion Icons auction was led by Princess Diana’s infamous black sheep sweater, which sold for more than $1,143,000, making it the most valuable sweater ever sold at auction.
