Man fighting for life after being stabbed at Christchurch McDonald’s

A man is in critical condition after being stabbed at a fast food restaurant late at night.

Emergency services were called to the McDonald’s near Christchurch Airport, on New Zealand’s South Island, just after 11pm local time on Thursday evening.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.

A witness said they saw the man “covered in blood” as he was carried out of the restaurant on a stretcher.

“McDonald’s employees assisted with the injured person,” they told the newspaper NZ Herald.

“Police have now cordoned off McDonald’s and are speaking to people in the restaurant.”

A St John spokesperson confirmed an ambulance, rapid response unit and manager were on scene.

“One person in a critical condition was taken to Christchurch Hospital,” he said.

The New Zealand police have not yet released any details about the incident.
