Former MasterChef Australia star Melissa Leong’s mortifying TV gaffe: ‘Why would I say that?’
Former MasterChef judge Melissa Leong was left red-faced after an ’embarrassing’ food-related blunder over the weekend.
Melissa’s food mistake happened during her appearance on Channel 10’s quiz show Have You Been Paying Attention? on Sunday evening.
Panelist Ed Kavalee asked the TV gourmand what her favorite soup was – a seemingly innocent question that fooled Melissa.
Nervous about being put on the spot, Melissa offered “chicken noodle soup” in response.
Despite chicken noodles being a very popular soup, Melissa revealed that the dish isn’t even in her top 10.
Her hasty response also sent the star into a mild anxiety spiral, leaving her thinking about the answer for “days.”
‘It’s not my favorite soup. Why would I say that,” Melissa said news.com.au. “That happened on Sunday and I’m still sitting on it.”
Melissa added that her smooth misstep had her thinking about the best things she’d tried in her life, and none came close to chicken noodles.

‘[I’ve since been] thinking back to all the memories of the great soups I’ve had in my life, in Hong Kong, the most beautiful bowl of Wonton noodle soup, with red vinegar, and you dip the beautiful thick packets of dumpling in red vinegar while you’re busy slurping soup,’ she said.
The food critic was fired from MasterChef Australia last year amid rumors of a feud between herself and fellow judges Andy Allen and the late Jock Zonfrillo, which she has denied.
She then presented the MasterChef spin-off series Dessert Masters alongside Amaury Guichon.
The former cooking show judge has teased yet another gig after landing roles in sports reporting, children’s television and the health sector.

“All will be revealed soon, but I am working on a new show,” the 42-year-old told the BBC Daily Telegraph this week.
It comes after Melissa announced she is realizing a childhood dream by appearing on ABC’s Playschool.
“I grew up watching Playschool,” she recently began in her Instagram caption.

This iconic show has been part of Australian entertainment for 60 years, so I’m thrilled to be part of the magic this week!’
She continued, “This is the only time you will ever see me singing and dancing on television so you know how much I wanted to do this!”
Melissa also fronted a new three-part documentary series about Australia’s healthcare system.
The TV star appeared in the new SBS docuseries The Hospital: In The Deep End in June.
