YouTuber Jack Doherty wasn’t livestreaming on his phone when he crashed his $300,000 supercar claims his brother who said he simply ‘hit a puddle’

Social media influencer Jack Doherty is being defended by his brother who claims he crashed his $300,000 supercar because of a ‘puddle’ – not because he was distracted filming a live stream.

Jack, 20, was driving his custom-built McLaren 570S on Sunday when he crashed into a barrier on a Miami highway before being dragged out of the window as his friend held his own bleeding head in the passenger seat.

At the time of the crash, Jack was livestreaming on Kick to 185,000 followers. Video footage shows him driving at high speed with one hand through heavy rain and looking at his phone just minutes before crashing into a barrier.

But his brother Michael – who was driving behind him in another car – has denied he was distracted by live streaming, insisting the accident was caused by the McLaren’s tendency to hydroplane in wet weather.

“He was not on his phone at the time of the accident,” the 22-year-old told DailyMail.com exclusively. ‘That was a few minutes earlier. I know a lot of the clips show him being there. But that was, I would say, about a minute or two earlier.

‘What actually happened was he ended up in a water bag, and McLaren’s are quite notorious for spinning away. He hydroplaned into the barrier and corrected slightly, which is anyone’s first instinct.

“When you hydroplane, you want to correct the other way, and that caused it to spin.”

When asked if he really believes his brother wasn’t distracted by filming in the sports car, he admitted: “Right, I mean, there was certainly an aspect of distraction, but I mean that the most important aspect of the cause of the crash was the water on the car. the highway that landed him in a seaplane.

‘I don’t think he realized that or saw that puddle. And that’s what happened.’

Jack managed to escape unscathed, but his friend Michael David, who was in the passenger seat, could be seen with blood streaming down his face and had to be taken to hospital.

But not before Jack handed him the camera and said, “Michael, here. Also film on that phone.’

Footage from the livestream shows Jack handing his camera to his brother. He asked his sibling to film himself being dragged out of the car window after the crash, while repeatedly commenting on the condition of his car.

Michael seemed to dismiss their friend’s injuries, claiming it wasn’t as bad as it seemed.

“At the time of the accident he was not on his phone. That was a few minutes before,

“He saw that he was not seriously injured,” he said. ‘Like he wasn’t dying. Of course he got hurt. He had some injuries to his eye and then I told Jack to hand the camera over to me so he could get treatment. And you know, he went and got treatment.”

According to Michael, his brother learned his lesson and was ‘scolded’ by his parents. He said he won’t be playing with supercars anymore and certainly won’t be livestreaming while driving.

“Me, my mom, my dad, our whole family gave him a big scolding,” Michael said.

‘He has learned his lesson 100 percent. I mean, on camera he’s very different than when he’s off camera. As soon as the camera went off, he cried.

‘We were all crying. I cried to him and said, ‘I don’t want to bury my brother.’ This could be a very different outcome. I think it struck a bit of a nerve.”

He added: ‘He wants to get rid of his cars now, and he even said to my dad, ‘You know you were right about the cars. They are dangerous and not just toys.” He learned his lesson without having to die,” Michael insisted.

Michael said he doesn’t think his brother should have his driver’s license revoked. He claims that the removal of the car has already affected his income.

“I don’t think his driver’s license should be taken away, but I think he already learned a big lesson when the car was taken away and the thrill of his source of income was taken away.”

Jack has since been banned from Kick for violating safety guidelines, with some believing he viewed the live chat portion of his stream while he was driving just seconds before the crash.

Jack, who is originally from Long Island, New York but now lives in Los Angeles, California, has 14.9 million YouTube subscribers.

He gained a large following, mainly of teenage boys, thanks to his pranks, stunts and challenge videos that are often filmed in public places, such as his Floor is Lava challenges in Walmart and Target.

Jack recently faced backlash for allegedly antagonizing people to attract content before hiding behind his security guards to prevent the people he provoked from touching him.

Earlier this year, Jack and his bodyguard, Kane Kongg, were served with legal papers and are being sued by a man who claimed he was beaten by Kongg – whose legal name is Justin Goslee.

The car crash comes ten months after Jack flipped a golf cart while his girlfriend was in the passenger seat and posted the footage to his YouTube channel.

His brother Michael – himself an openly gay influencer – has a huge following on his OnlyFans.
