John Farnham’s voice heard for first time after marathon mouth cancer surgery
Legendary Australian singer John Farnham’s voice can be heard for the first time after he underwent surgery for oral cancer.
The You’re The Voice hitmaker, 75, narrates the audiobook version of his memoir, The Voice Inside.
Publisher Hachette Australia released an excerpt from the book on Tuesday, with Farnham sounding slightly grimmer than before his 12-hour marathon procedure.
‘I don’t like talking about myself, really. Don’t get me wrong, I’m an egomaniac, but digging up the past just isn’t something I’ve ever really enjoyed,” he said in the teaser.
‘I will try to share as much as possible, but it is not easy because I have never been so open. I think there are reasons for that. Reasons for my reluctance,” Farnham added.
Since announcing his cancer diagnosis in August 2022, Farnham has largely stayed out of the public spotlight.
On the same day as his announcement, he underwent a grueling twelve-hour surgery, which included jaw reconstruction to remove a tumor from his mouth.
In August 2023, Farnham revealed he was cancer-free, 12 months after the procedure.

Farnham’s family had previously provided updates on behalf of the Australian music legend following the August 2022 surgery.
Speaking at Sunrise, his son Robert said his father was ‘doing fantastic’.
The That’s Freedom favorite was additionally hospitalized after developing a respiratory infection following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his mouth.

It is ‘unlikely’ that Farnham will ever perform again.
His operation, performed by 26 medical staff, also included the removal of a large part of his jaw.
Farnham had only discovered he had the cancerous tumor in his mouth after his wife Jill insisted on taking him to the doctor for a check-up when he developed a persistent mouth ulcer.
