GBBO winner Nadiya Hussain reveals she’s been diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases in emotional video
A teary-eyed Nadiya Hussain revealed in an emotional Instagram that she has been diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases video on Monday.
The Great British bake-off star, 39, who won the series in 2015, shared her shock health diagnosis after being in and out of hospital for two years.
Although Nadiya didn’t go into much detail, the baker warned fans to listen to their bodies and push for a diagnosis if they think something is wrong.
Autoimmune diseases are caused by antibodies accidentally attacking healthy tissues and organs in your body.
Nadiya said: “I can’t stress enough how important it is to take care of yourself. I’m the kind of person who burns the candle at both ends and takes care of everyone’s needs but my own.

‘I don’t take time for myself. I don’t really know what that means or what that feels like. Not really. And when I do take time for myself, I feel very guilty.’
She added: ‘But lately, especially this year, but over the course of two years, I’ve been quite unwell. I just got quite sick.
“And over the course of the two years I was diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases, which I won’t go into now.
‘I will look into it in the future when I know more about it and can deal with it a little better and understand it a little better.
“But until then, I can’t express, like I can’t express how important it is to listen to your body, to take care of yourself.
“And like I said, I’m the worst at it. I’m not very good at it at all. I will only take care of myself when my body is disabled. And that’s not good for you. We need to take more care of ourselves.”
She continued, “So yeah, I just wanted to come here. And like it’s been a really tough year because of all the testing and trying to figure things out and get my head around it.
“But I feel like it’s really important to get to the other side and really be grateful and feel blessed that even though it would be great not to be sick, I’m here.
“And that’s really what it’s about, is that I’m here and I have to do everything I can to positively influence myself mentally and physically. And that’s all I can really do.

Last month, Nadiya revealed she hasn’t seen the show that launched her career – The Great British Bake Off – in five years

‘But I think it’s very important that my conclusion from all this, which I have always done, is: listen to your body.’
Last month, Nadiya revealed she hasn’t seen the show that launched her career – The Great British Bake Off – in five years.
In The Great British Bake Off, twelve amateur bakers compete for two months under a marquee and in the presence of professional bakers.
Nadiya’s success on the show has allowed her to host her own cooking shows, write best-selling books and bake the late queen’s 90th birthday cake.
But she told Heat magazine in September: ‘I don’t watch Bake Off.
“I stopped doing it about five years ago because it has changed so much since I was in it. It’s a different show now, but I love having Alison Hammond as the host.”
When Nadiya won in 2015, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins were hosting and Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood were judging.
Just two years later, the entire central cast had been replaced except for Paul Hollywood.
In 2017 Mel and Sue left and were replaced by Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig and Mary was replaced by Prue Leith.
Since then, the judging team has remained the same, but the presenting team has changed twice more: Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas from 2020 to 2022 and now Noel and Alison.
