Tom Brady earns brutal nickname as NFL analyst rips the legend’s performance in the Fox booth again
Former FOX Sports pundit Skip Bayless had a less than complimentary view of Tom Brady’s color commentary skills, and coined a new nickname in the process.
Bayless watched Brady on the microphone during the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals, which happened to be broadcast on FOX.
“I’ve been listening to the 49ers-Cardinals commentary by Captain Obvious…who’s just talking and talking more and more clearly,” Bayless said.
Brady is currently in the middle of his first season in an NFL broadcast booth, teaming up with play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt as the No. 1 pairing for the network.
But he doesn’t do this without criticism – or growing pains – especially after a much-discussed first week behind the microphone.
Former FOX Sports pundit Skip Bayless dropped a scathing nickname for Tom Brady
Brady, who now works for Bayless’ former employer, was branded “Capt. ‘Clearly’
This isn’t even the first time Bayless has been critical of Brady on social media – with the former “Undisputed” host providing a scathing assessment of the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback’s abilities in mid-September.
“I listened to Tom Brady all game today, then Tony Romo all game today,” Bayless wrote on X during Sunday’s NFL action.
Brady mentioned the Dallas Cowboys’ game against the visiting New Orleans Saints. Then Romo, a former Cowboys quarterback who now serves as CBS Sports’ color commentator, called a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals from Arrowhead Stadium.
“Romo gives you much more X&O insight and enlightenment,” Bayless wrote. “Some ex-QBs can see it and say it. Some can’t. Perhaps Brady played more with indescribable feeling and instinct. But… he’s just a newcomer to the booth.”
While Bayless is watching NFL games at home, Brady has signed a 10-year, $375 million contract to call off those games.
It seems like every week brings more and more improvement for the ex-Patriots and Buccaneers quarterback as he gets used to being behind the microphone.
Bayless has been a free agent since leaving his old show Undisputed this summer.

“Today was my last show on Undisputed,” Bayless wrote on X in August. “I’m leaving FS1. I have been planning to pursue other opportunities for several months now.
“I’ve had a great eight years with a lot of great people at FOX, but now I’m excited about what’s to come. Stay tuned.’
Those plans still haven’t been revealed, but rumors suggest he’s about to launch a new show with his friend and rapper Lil Wayne.
