Les Ferdinand believes Manchester United will not finish above Tottenham and Brighton after their poor start to the season.
Erik ten Hag’s side extended their winless run to five games with a goalless draw against in-form Aston Villa.
United ends the weekend in 14th place in the Premier League with a goal difference of minus three.
And Ferdinand insists he is ‘struggling’ to see an improvement at the Red Devils after their dismal campaign under Ten Hag last season.
‘They are doing everything they can to support him. Ashworth has only just arrived and he hasn’t really had a chance,” the former Tottenham striker told Sky Sports.

‘He keeps talking about improvement, but we have difficulty seeing that. At the moment United are not the benchmark and they are so far away from that.
‘They are not above Tottenham and Brighton in terms of their performances.’
The draw against Villa ensured United had that made their worst start to a league season in 35 years with only eight points from seven games.
This slow start to the 2024/25 season comes after United recorded their lowest result in Premier League history last season, when Ten Hag’s side finished in eighth place.
The last time United took eight points or fewer from their first seven league games was in the 1989-90 season.
The former striker also insists that he is ‘struggling’ to see improvement under Ten Hag
United had just seven points after seven games in September 1989, finishing thirteenth in the old First Division in what was Sir Alex Ferguson’s fourth season at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag’s side will have to wait until after the international break to get back on track when they host Brentford.
