Long weekend weather: Summer-like heatwave hits Sydney and Brisbane

Millions of Aussies look set for an early summer shock on Monday, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting sweltering temperatures for three major cities.

Brisbane could reach a high of 32ºC all day, BOM said on Monday morning, while Sydney will shake off the rainy weather and reach a possible high of 29ºC.

The hot tropical days are likely to continue all week for the Sunshine State’s capital, with the agency forecasting gales and a high of 33 degrees for Tuesday, then highs of 24 degrees for Wednesday and Thursday and 27 degrees for Friday.

Sydney is likely to drop from 29°C on Monday to a high of 19°C on Tuesday, then 20°C on Wednesday and 24°C on Thursday.

In Darwin it will probably reach 36 degrees Celsius, while the upper city will continue to swelter below 36 degrees for the rest of the week.

But as summer will hit the NT, Queensland and NSW, rain and crisp temperatures will wash over southern parts of the country.

Melbourne is forecast to see some rain with a high of 19 degrees Celsius, while Hobart will be hit with showers and windy conditions, in addition to a high of 15 degrees Celsius.

In Adelaide it will be partly cloudy with a high of 20 degrees and in Perth the temperature will be between 11 and 24 degrees.

Days will become warmer for Perth as the week progresses, with the WA capital expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius on Friday.
