One woman was killed and nine were seriously injured after a suspected shooting in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba.

The ambulance service previously said a seriously injured woman in her 20s was treated at the scene before succumbing to her injuries.

Another eight people were injured in the attack, including one in a moderate to serious condition who are receiving treatment at the nearby Soroka Hospital.

According to local reports, the gunman – an Arab-Israeli resident of a nearby Bedouin village – was shot dead. Police are now investigating whether the attack involved both stabbing and gunfire.

Locally named by the Israel Hayom as Ahmed Suliman Al-Ukbi, he is said to have moved from store to store near Beersheba’s central bus station, targeting a McDonald’s and a nearby coffee shop before authorities arrived.

He was neutralized on the spot, but Southern District police remained at the shooting site as they searched for accomplices. They said that “the situation is still active.”
