A Premier League youngster has been embroiled in an unusual row between club and country.

The prospect has bizarrely been called up by both England and Portugal at Under-18 level.

England Under-18s are keen for him to be involved in a tournament in Marbella, with the young Lions taking on Sweden next Friday before taking on Ukraine or the Netherlands.

Portugal wants the player to be involved in the friendly match against Turkey next Thursday.

The youngster is eligible to play for both countries and it remains to be seen who he will represent.

Wolves youngster Mateus Mane previously played for England Under-18s and Portugal Under-17s.

As reported by The sunthe forward is eligible to be called up by both countries as Under-18 is a non-UEFA age group.

Mane was born in Portugal in September 2007 and played for FC Barreirense’s youth academy before joining Rochdale in 2016. This year he switched to Wolves.

So far this season, Mane has scored twice and provided two assists in three games for Wolves Under-18s.

He does not yet have to make a concrete decision about which country he will represent at a high level when the opportunity arises.
