Former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan forced to cancel a string of shows after ‘spitting blood’ and undergoing surgery

Former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan has been forced to cancel a series of shows after he ‘started spitting blood’ and had to undergo surgery.

The 43-year-old singer was fired from his band after being convicted of assaulting his current wife Vikki Ager in 2020, and has since gone solo.

Tom was due to play Newcastle last week but the show was canceled ‘on doctor’s orders’, another in Leeds was also cancelled.

He next plays Manchester on Friday, Birmingham on Saturday and Birdwell on Sunday, but this seems unlikely.

In an update shared to Instagram, Tom lay in a hospital bed with bandages around his lower face.

The musician explained in the clip: ‘Today I had a damn abscess removed from my throat. It was hell. It was literally a fucking hell raiser. It was fucking scary.

‘At least the b****k is gone and I’m surviving. Listen, I’m getting fit, I’ve been trying to walk around and that… and I won’t have it in me until tomorrow. To be continued.’

An update shared last week read: ‘Sad news…unfortunately tonight’s show in London (Kentish Town Forum) had to be postponed due to illness.

“Sorry guys, Tom has only canceled two shows in his career. He is battling a tooth and mouth infection and has been ordered to rest.

‘Rescheduled show is now October 14th. All tickets are valid. Thank you for your understanding. Lots of love XXX.”

In December, Noel Gallagher’s band High Flying Birds were supported by former Kasabian frontman Tom in Birmingham, despite backlash from fans.

Noel also came under fire from ticket holders for his gigs in August last year, with some devotees insisting at the time that they would not attend the concerts if Tom was the support act.

The performance was his second appearance as part of the High Flying Birds tour after they took to the stage at OVO Arena Wembley in London.

Despite problems in his personal life, Tom has achieved success in the music industry with six number one albums and four top 10 singles with Kasabian.

A source said The sun: ‘The takeover of Noel against Tom is a big deal and a lot of people are talking about it.

‘Liam is incredibly close friends with Serge, who openly rejected his relationship with Tom after attacking Vicki.

“Some have said it feels like Noel’s decision to bring Tom on board could be construed as a slight towards Liam.

‘It didn’t go well with many fans, but there are people who have forgiven Tom and want to move on.

‘Noel knew there would be a backlash, but he clearly stands by his position.’

MailOnline contacted representatives for Noel and Tom for comment at the time.

Tom pleaded guilty to punching Vikki in their backyard on April 9, 2020. A judge sentenced him to 200 hours of unpaid work after hearing his then ‘girlfriend wanted him back’.

Tom married his partner Vikki in 2021, a year after pleading guilty to attacking her.

The couple tied the knot at the Harborgh Registry Office in Leicester in July 2021 and released a statement saying: ‘Tom has worked so hard on himself, his health, his family and his relationship with Vicki over the past year.’

Before his court appearance, Kasabian posted a statement on their Facebook page saying that Tom was leaving due to “personal issues” and that they would “not be making any further comment.”

They later said they had ‘no choice’ but to ask him to leave and branded the incident ‘totally unacceptable’. They also accused him of “misleading fans” in his statement.

The couple appeared to have been working on their relationship and tied the knot with the full statement: ‘We are delighted to share the news that Tom Meighan and Vikki Ager were married on Tuesday 13 July 2021 at the Market Harborgh Registry Office, Leicester.

‘It was an intimate affair, in accordance with the latest Covid-19 guidelines, with the couple becoming husband and wife, surrounded by their children, family and some close friends.’

‘Tom has worked so hard on himself, his health, his family and his relationship with Vicki over the past year. They are deeply in love and look forward to sharing the rest of their lives together.”
