The Big Star Wars Outlaws patch fixes a long list of launch issues

Ubisoft has rolled out a massive update for Star Wars Outlaws on Thursday, which addressed a long list of complaints about the open-world Star Wars game as the first step in the right direction previously announced roadmap to improve the game. If you’re not ready yet Star Wars Outlaws but still – perhaps because you were annoyed by the game’s shaky stealth and speeder mechanics – this patch might just be for you.

Update 1.2 for Star Wars Outlaws tweaks the stealth experience “by adjusting AI detection, the number of NPCs and their positioning, patrol paths, camera detection, and highlighting environmental features to reduce friction between players,” according to Patch notes from Ubisoft. Kay Vess is also less likely to be spotted if you use cover.

Kay’s speeder should also be much more fun to ride. Ubisoft says the update improves the position of the speed camera, improves the speeder’s response when summoned, and improves collision detection with the environment “to avoid being knocked off the speeder.” In other words, small stones are grained.

The rest of the game’s patch notes contain a long list of much-needed improvements Star Wars Outlawsincluding squashing some game-breaking and just plain annoying bugs. There are also some presentation tweaks, such as updated animations after takedowns and an updated melee animation after Kay hits an enemy with a helmet.

Star Wars Outlaws was criticized at launch for bugs and performance issues. Additional updates, including one promising quality of life updates, are scheduled for October 24 and November 21. Ubisoft also brings Star Wars Outlaws to Steam on November 21, promising more updates to the game’s stealth mechanics on that date.

“Far too many stealth missions involve a ‘don’t get caught’ or ‘don’t set off the alarm’ failure that, because of your lack of tools, is annoyingly easy to accidentally stumble upon,” wrote critic Todd Harper. in the review.

Star Wars OutlawsTechnical issues and gameplay issues contributed to a “softer than expected” reception for the game, according to Ubisoft. In the wake of OutlawsTo a cool critical and commercial reception, Ubisoft postponed a new open-world game, Assassin’s Creed Shadowsin an effort to further polish that title before release.
