The incident occurred during the early exchanges of the match, with hosts Boro, the competition’s third-placed side, in eighth place.
Medics immediately ran to the linesman, who appeared to feint on the touchline, as the Hawthorns descended into worried silence.
About eight minutes later, play resumed, with Jacob Miles, the fourth official, preparing to take on assistant referee duties.
