Phillip Schofield returns to television tonight on Channel 5’s Cast Away, more than a year after resigning from ITV’s This Morning following an ‘ill-advised’ affair with a junior colleague.

The 62-year-old broadcaster will be stranded on a desert island off the coast of Madagascar for 10 days, without food or water and without a production crew.

Schofield announced his return to the country’s screens last week, describing the show as: ‘My story of survival, both on a desert island and beyond’, after leaving ITV’s This Morning in May 2023.

Phillip takes to Instagram ahead of the first episode

Phillip has been using his Instagram Stories to prepare for the first episode of Cast Away, which goes live tonight at 9pm.

The presenter joked: ‘It’s almost time!! See you at 9pm on @Channel5_tv and My5. I hope you enjoy it x’

He included a never-before-seen photo taken during filming, which shows the former ITV star sitting under a canopy in front of a camera.

When was Phillip Schofield’s appearance on Cast Away announced and what can we expect?

The disgraced presenter announced his return to regular TV on September 24.

He will discuss his bitter divorce with ITV and This Morning, which he presented for 21 years while fending for himself on the island paradise off the coast of Madagascar.

Viewers will see the presenter reflect on the emotional impact of his exile from mainstream TV after news of his affair with a 20-year-old runner emerged on This Morning.

It’s understood Schofield was given a handheld camera, body cameras and a sound pack before being left to record his emotional week-and-a-half journey.

“What people don’t realize is that they are abusing you – but then there are other people who are affected by it too,” Phillip Schofield’s ever-faithful wife Stephanie told him before he became a castaway on a desert island this summer.

Mrs Schofield, 59, has unfailingly supported her husband through an extraordinary and challenging decade that began when he came out as gay and then lost his job at This Morning over an affair with a young producer last year.

Gone is his £2million-a-year ‘golden handcuffs’ contract with ITV, as well as the lucrative deals with the likes of Princess Cruises, We Buy Any Car and Waitrose.
