Beloved vet Dr John Hosie killed in tragic ATV rollover at Richmond property – as shocked pals remember proud dad: ‘Affable and charming’

A vet and a young father-of-one have been identified as the victims of a fatal buggy accident on a rural property.
Dr. John Hosie, 38, was killed when the ATV buggy he was traveling in rolled onto his property in Richmond, North Queensland, at around 1pm on Wednesday, September 18.
Paramedics were called to the scene but despite their efforts, Dr Hosie could not be saved.
Dr. Hosie grew up in Malanda and watched his father Ian care for sick animals at their family business, Tableland Veterinary Service, before later following in his footsteps.
In a tribute on Monday, Tableland Veterinary Service (TVS) said he was a “regular outsider” at the clinic even as a toddler.

TVS said it was “no surprise” when Dr. Hosie enrolled to study veterinary medicine at James Cook University in 2005.
“John was a natural talent as a veterinarian: smart, intuitive but above all kind and charming,” TVS wrote.
“He interacted with people from all walks of life, but was always most at ease with cattle and horses.”
After graduating from college in 2010, Dr. Hosie to Gympie Veterinary Service in south-east Queensland, before returning home two years later and joining the TVS team.
He later became a partner in the business while also working to obtain his pilot’s license, and “at his happiest he flew around the cattle stations in North Queensland, conducting pregnancy tests, bull tests and soaking up station life.”

In 2020 he left Malanda to move 455km west to Yan Yean cattle station in Richmond with his fiancée and fellow veterinarian, Dr Michaela McClymont.
They married the following year, before welcoming their son Hayes in 2023.
Dr. Hosie is survived by his wife, their son, his parents and sister.
“He will be greatly missed by all who knew him,” TVS said.
“Our love and support goes out to all his family and friends at this difficult time.”
