Horror as man stabbed in back outside Sydney light rail station

A man has been stabbed in the back while walking near a light rail stop in central Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Darling Road in Haymarket at around 4.20pm on Sunday following reports of an attack.

Police were told a 22-year-old man was walking near the Chinatown light rail stop in the southern part of the CBD when he was stabbed in the back.

A man reportedly fled the scene and ran towards Darling Drive.

Paramedics treated the 22-year-old at the scene and he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man police want to speak to about the incident was captured on CCTV and is described as a man aged around 40 to 50, with a Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance.

He is approximately 170 cm tall, of medium build, bald, with dark hair and a trimmed beard.

At the time, he had a black track top with the Nike insignia on the back and white lettering on the front, black pants and white sweatpants.
